Birds contaminated with fuel oil were found in the National Natural Park “Tuzlivsky Limans” in Odessa region.
This was reported on his Facebook page by the Doctor of Biological Sciences and Head of the Research Department of the National Park “Tuzlivsky Estuary” Ivan Rusev on January 10, writes Social Crimea.
It is noted that we are talking about a large pernicose that flies by quickly flapping its wings, and can fly a long distance.
“We also observed a large cormorant, which was in the same condition as pyrenicosis, but it was impossible to get it out of the water,” Rusyev noted.
He also said that the bird, which did not survive, will be sent to the Ukrainian Center for Marine Ecology to conduct laboratory studies for the presence of oil products and their possible connection with the quality of oil products that fell into the Black Sea during the accident of Russian tankers on December 15, 2024 in the Kerch Strait.
“Tens of thousands of birds have died as a result of the accident and this is not the end of the terrible consequences for nature. Every day they find dead cetaceans, mostly lizards, and there are already about a hundred of them found. As you know, during such accidents with oil products, the sea or the ocean, they throw out only 5% of all the dead and therefore the real dead from this accident - thousands,” said Rusyev.
The day before, the Ministry of Environment reported that the coast of the Odessa region is not threatened by fuel oil pollution. At the same time, biologist and head of the NGO “Green List” Vladislav Balinsky suggested that oil products leaking as a result of the accident of the Volgoneft tankers could reach the coast of Odessa region by mid-January.
