Ukraine has managed to return ten of its civilians from Russian captivity, including the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Nariman Celâl. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy wrote about this on his telegram channel.

The occupiers imprisoned Celâl in 2021 on falsified terrorism charges, and in 2022 he was sentenced to 17 years in prison and transferred to Siberia. Along with the politician, brothers Asan and Aziz Akhtemov were accused of blowing up the gas pipeline between Simferopol and Yalta. They were sentenced to 15 and 13 years respectively. The brothers remain in Russian captivity, as well as more than 120 other Crimean Tatars convicted on political charges.
