August 20, Foros. The FSB detains a suspect in high treason — a 59-year-old former Ukrainian border guard. In the video of the “special operation,” he is wearing a warm jacket, while the special forces operatives are wearing winter combat boots.

August 24, Yevpatoria. A 23-year-old resident is detained on the same charge. And the FSB agents are also dressed inappropriately for the season.

August 31, Yevpatoria. A 58-year-old sister and a 52-year-old brother, both wearing winter clothing, are brought to the FSB office, where they are charged with treason.

September 3, Simferopol. A 34-year-old man in a coat and a wool cap is led away to face the same charge.

September 4, Simferopol. A 71-year-old woman and her 52-year-old daughter are labeled as traitors. Photos and videos of the arrest are not made public.

September 9, Simferopol. Three men, aged 38, 32, and 31, are charged with treason and face life imprisonment. In the video of their arrest, they are wearing warm jackets and vests.

Was the summer of 2026 in Crimea really that cold? Apparently not: both at the end of August and even now, temperatures of +25–30 are being recorded across the peninsula. However, Crimeans are not surprised by the “traitors’” winter clothing. On the occupied peninsula, almost everyone understands that a “reactivation” is underway. Human rights activists have known about some of the detentions made public over the past three weeks for over a year and a half.

Mother and daughter Anna and Oksana Sotsenko are residents of the Pervomaiskyi District. They were abducted from their home in early 2025 and held in complete isolation for over nine months. Their relatives were intimidated, and lawyers were barred from seeing them, so only human rights activists were able to search for the women. The mother and daughter are being held in the Simferopol pretrial detention center without trial or investigation, and it was not until September 2026 that the nature of the fabricated charges became known: the women were allegedly photographing the invaders’ vehicles and passing the photos on to the Ukrainian military. Retiree Hanna Sotsenko is 71 years old and suffers from several chronic illnesses. Oksana Sotsenko, a 52-year-old teacher, has a 10-year-old son with a disability at home.

The case involving the detention in Yevpatoria of siblings Valentin and Tetyana Malyar has also been dragging on since 2025. Initially, Tetyana’s children — a 39-year-old son and a 33-year-old daughter — were also arrested, but later only the older family members remained behind bars.
