President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at a meeting with family members of the crew killed in the plane crash and the surviving flight attendants of the Azerbaijan Airlines plane said that the blame for the crash lies with representatives of the Russian Federation and demanded that the perpetrators be punished i.

“I can say with certainty that the blame for the fact that Azerbaijani citizens died in this disaster (plane crash in Aktau - ed.) lies with representatives of the Russian Federation. And we demand justice, we demand punishment of the guilty, we demand full transparency and human behavior,” Aliyev said.

According to him, the process of decrypting black boxes is now underway. “I am sure that in the near future we will know the preliminary result, and everything will fall into place, the whole picture of the tragedy that happened will be known. And this, of course, will be an important moment in the case of a full investigation of this tragedy and the punishment of those responsible for it,” Aliyev said.

On December 25, an Embraer aircraft of Azerbaijan Airlines, en route from Baku to Grozny, crashed near Aktau in Kazakhstan. As a result of the accident, 38 people died.

Azerbaijan Airlines said its plane had been subjected to “external physical and technical interference”.

On December 28, Russian ruler Vladimir Putin, during a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, apologized that “the tragic incident with the Azerbaijan Airlines plane occurred in Russian airspace,” but did not admit the guilt of the Russians.

On December 29, Aliyev said that the Azerbaijani Airlines plane, which suffered a disaster over the territory of the Russian Federation, was fired at from the ground. He also demanded from Russia an admission of guilt and compensation.
