US imposes massive sanctions against Russian oil

The US Treasury Department has announced sanctions against two major Russian oil and gas companies and numerous vessels and energy officials.

This is reported TSNwith reference to the press service of the US Department of the Treasury.

In response to G7 commitments to limit funding for Russia's war against Ukraine, sanctions were imposed against two major oil producers, Gazprom Nafta and Surgutneftegaz, as well as more than 180 vessels involved in transporting Russian oil.

In particular, the sanctions cover the “shadow fleet”, which is actively used for covert oil trading, and also includes a number of oil traders and oil service providers. An important component of the new measures was the blocking of oil refineries, such as Gazpromneft Omsky Refinery and Gazpromneft Noyabrsk, as well as tightening sanctions against high-ranking officials involved in Russia's energy sector.

The Treasury Department also adopted a new decision prohibiting the provision of U.S. oil services to persons in the Russian Federation. This ban restricts Russia's access to American services related to the extraction and production of oil and other petroleum products. The ban will enter into force on February 27, 2025.

Russian insurance companies “Ingosstrakh” and “Alfainsurance” also entered the new list of sanctions. Sanctions were imposed against the structure “Rosnefteflot”, which controls shipping for the transport of energy carriers. Dozens of Russian officials involved in the energy sector, as well as executives of oil and gas companies working in the field of transportation of oil and petroleum products, were also subject to restrictions.
