New York judge Juan Merchan on Friday, January 10, sentenced the US president-elect to a sentence of “unconditional discharge” in the case of the silence payment of porn actress Stormy Daniels.
This is reported “European Truth”with reference to Sky News.
Trump, who was found guilty by a jury in the summer of 2024 on all 34 counts in the “porn money” case, was sentenced to a so-called unconditional discharge.
This type of punishment means that Trump has not been given a jail term, probation or fine.
At the same time, he will have a formal criminal record, so the 47th president of the United States will be the first president in the history of the country to be convicted of a criminal offense.
During the announcement of the sentence, Merchan explained that the immunity that Donald Trump gives as president is “a factor that prevails over all others.”
“Donald Trump, an ordinary citizen, Donald Trump, charged with a criminal offense, would not be entitled to such significant protection,” he added.
Trump himself participated in the meeting via video, and in his speech criticized the trial as a “witch hunt” and called it the “worst experience” of his life.
Recall that in the “porn money” case, Trump was found guilty on charges of falsifying business documents in order to hide a payment of $130,000 to porn star Stormy Daniels in exchange for her silence before the 2016 US election about sexual contact, which she said she had with Trump years earlier.
Trump's sentencing was initially scheduled for July 11 last year, and then postponed several times.
The “porn money” case was the only one in which Trump's sentence could be announced before the US presidential election: for the rest, even hearings on the merits have not yet begun.
