Trump took a huge step towards giving Crimea to Putin

The war in Ukraine should end with diplomatic negotiations, but it is unrealistic to expect that the Russians will be expelled from all occupied territories. This was stated in an interview with ABC News by Michael Volz, Donald Trump's national security adviser, reports UNIAN.

According to him, in order to conduct substantive negotiations on ending the war, Trump needs to establish direct contacts with both sides. Especially with the Kremlin. And preparations for that meeting, which should take place “in the coming months,” are already underway, Volz says.

“We have not yet defined the exact format for this, but we are working on it. But I expect at least a phone call in the coming days or weeks. That this would be a step from which we could start,” Volz said.

He also expressed hope that Ukraine and Russia will be able to agree on a ceasefire on the front, which could be “an incredible positive step on both sides” towards direct peace talks.

“Everyone knows that somehow this has to end diplomatically. I just don't think it's realistic to say that we will expel every Russian from every inch of Ukrainian land, even from Crimea. President Trump acknowledged that reality, and I think that was a huge step. Now the whole world recognizes this reality,” he said.

Volz stressed that the war must be ended so that it does not drag the whole world into itself, as the DPRK has already drawn in.
