Arsen Alchikov, a veteran of the Crimean Tatar national movement, died in Crimea

On January 12, Arsen Alchikov, a veteran of the Crimean Tatar national movement, a political prisoner of the times of the USSR, a delegate to the Kurultay of the Crimean Tatar people, died at 84 years of life in the annexed Crimea. Alchikov was born in 1941 in the village of Shuma, Alushtin district. At the age of three, he and his family were deported from Crimea. Together with his wife Tamara Kontuganskaya, he was convicted during the “Trial of the Twelve” held in Tashkent in 1967.

In 1975, Alchikov returned to Crimea, where he suffered repression and persecution. During the years of the mass return of the Crimean Tatar people to their homeland, which coincided with the collapse of the USSR, Alchikov became one of the mentors of the Crimean Tatar youth, notes Chubarov.

“Even after Russia's occupation of Crimea in February 2014, Alchikov remained faithful to his people and his homeland,” the head of the Mejlis added.

Genaze namaz (funeral ceremony) and farewell to Alchikov will take place on January 13 at 12.00 at the address: village Krasnivka (near Mazanka), Simferopol district.
