Since the crash of Russian tankers in the Kerch Strait, 61 dead cetaceans have been found, 32 deaths probably related to the spill of fuel oil in the Black Sea. This is reported by the non-profit organization “Scientific and Ecological Center for the Rescue of Dolphins “Delfa”, they convey Crimea.Realities.
“Let's start with the most difficult. Since the emergency, we have recorded 61 dead cetaceans, of which 32 deaths are most likely due to fuel oil spills. Others died before the accident — very old bodies,” the report said.
According to animal activists, for this period of time, such a number of deaths is an atypically large figure. In addition, the bulk of these cetaceans died in the first 10 days after the disaster. The victims were mainly Azov, which have always been the most vulnerable cetaceans, add representatives of the “Delphi”.
“So far there have been no live dolphin releases, but we can expect a much larger than usual increase in the number of affected cetaceans in the coming months,” the publication said.
