Ukraine offered Slovakia assistance in switching from Russian gas to alternative sources of blue fuel supplies, but Prime Minister Robert Fizzo “arrogantly refused” the offer. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky in his statement on the X platform, writes UNIAN.
According to the Ukrainian president, the European partners warned the Slovak prime minister that it is necessary to prepare to stop gas transit through Ukraine and that “you can not just do nothing and wait”. Now, Zelensky says, Fizo is using “PR, lies and loud accusations” to shift blame for Slovakia's gas problems onto others.
“But the problem is that he bet on Moscow, not on his country, not on a united Europe and not on common sense. It was his losing bet from the beginning,” Zelensky said, expressing hope that Europe will eventually be able to overcome the problems caused by the “short-sightedness of individual European figures”.
As reported, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini has abandoned plans to visit Ukraine due to the stop of transit of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory.
Meanwhile, the parliamentary delegation of Slovakia went to Russia for talks. And Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fizzo threatened to block additional assistance to Ukraine from the European Union. According to him, Slovakia must decide whether it will indulge in a passive foreign policy or seek to develop living space within the framework of the EU and NATO.
