Zelensky does not lower the mobilization age, because all weapons were dismantled by his grandparents

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky commented on proposals to reduce the mobilization age coming from representatives of NATO and other partner countries.

As the correspondent transmits UNIAN, he stated this during a meeting with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.

“We have heard signals many times about the age of our military, the mobilization age, etc... I will not give a specific figure, because it is dangerous: we have more than a hundred brigades on the battlefield, and each of these brigades needs staffing on a daily basis,” the head of state said.

According to him, one of the key problems remains the lack of necessary equipment.

“The equipment is armored vehicles, artillery, everything that is needed in each brigade,” Zelensky said.

He also noted that in a large number of brigades, equipment is constantly failing or in need of repair. Zelensky stressed:

“There is always some kind of incompleteness. Therefore, when we talk about increasing the number of our people, to increase even more, we must understand that there is no adequate staffing today. We must equip our crews with the appropriate equipment. All these requests are available to our partners. I think that's the most important thing. A person must be protected. A person must not just be protected, but have the appropriate weapons and knowledge. It seems to me that the partners should saturate the Ukrainian army first of all.”

Earlier, US President Joe Biden's National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said the day before that the problem with mobilization in Ukraine and with the number of citizens mobilized has developed over time. And it has become more acute over the past year, so Ukraine will have to make an independent decision on whether it is necessary or not to lower the mobilization age to 18 years.

“This is an acute problem, and it is something that Ukraine will have to deal with, even if we do everything possible to provide them with the ammunition they need,” he said. Sullivan also stressed that Ukraine's need to “be able” to fully equip brigades and battalions is growing as the United States supplies a huge amount of ammunition and military equipment.
